U1 Student Permit Application Checklist for ALU Rwanda
- Passport or International Refugee passport (applicable to anyone with official refugee status and not based in Rwanda):
- Must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry in Rwanda.
- Must have at least 2 blank pages.
- Must be in PDF format and not exceed 500 KB.
- Original Police Clearance:
- Required for anyone 18 years of age and older.
- Must be issued by the country you lived in for the past 6 months.
- Should be in English or French. If it has to be translated, it should be notarized by a certified government body.
- Must have a validity of at least 3 months after arrival in Rwanda.
- Must be in PDF format and not exceed 500 KB.

- Recommendation Letter:
- ALU will issue a recommendation letter, also known as the eligibility to enroll letter, once you have completed all the necessary enrollment requirements on the admissions portal
- Two passport-sized photographs:
- Must be taken with a white background
- Must be a jpeg or jpg file and not exceed 200kb
- Payment:
- 20,000RWF (approximately USD 20) payable to the Directorate-General of Immigration and Emigration after submitting the student permit application via Irembo website.
***Once documents have been uploaded to the Admissions portal, they will be reviewed and accepted by the ALU Immigration team. Acceptance or non-acceptance will be communicated to the prospective student.
