The following are options available for you to provide as proof of funds as you apply for your student permit in Rwanda:
- Option 1: Bank Statement
- Here are guidelines for an acceptable bank statement:
- Issued in the student's legal name or the legal name of a parent, guardian, or other sponsor (family member preferred/non-family member acceptable)
- Should have bank letter-head, stamp, and/or signature
- Should cover the banking history for the past 6 months from the date of submission of the document to ALU
- Should have funds ($) to cover tuition, accommodation, health insurance, and other necessities as per in the Table below.

- Note: If the bank statement is not in US Dollars, the prospective student/sponsor will show the amount & conversion rate in Dollars, via the Sponsorship Commitment Letter (SCL) using the National Bank of Rwanda’s Exchange rate.
- Here are guidelines for an acceptable bank statement:
- Option 2: Proof of a Student or Educational Loan from a bank
- Should be issued in the (prospective student)'s legal name
- Should have a date and signature from the bank providing the loan
- Should specify the loan amount
- Should indicate the loan disbursement period
- Should show any other relevant details
- Option 1: Bank Statement
- Option 3: Proof of Tuition and Additional Costs paid (where applicable)
- Option 4: Proof of funding from ALU (If you have a scholarship or grant from ALU)
- Note: If you have been offered an ALU grant, you still need to provide proof of funds for the remaining amount, which is not covered by the ALU grant.
- ***The financial statement should be accompanied by the Sponsorship Commitment Letter (SCL) from the entity to which the bank financial statement belongs. Note: If the sponsor is an organization, the SCL with letterhead, stamp, and signature will be sufficient, and the bank statement is not mandatory.
