What are the different admission decisions and what do they mean?

Admitted

Admitted students receive a firm offer of admission to ALU and do not need to submit any supplementary documentation or fulfill any additional requirements. They would have submitted their final Senior Secondary/National Exam Certificates and an Equivalency certificate for ALU Rwanda.

Conditionally Admitted

Conditionally Admitted students receive an offer of admission to ALU that is contingent on fulfilling some additional requirements. Conditionally Admitted students will only receive a firm offer of admission upon the fulfillment of all outstanding requirements. The following are the conditions of Admission for ALU Rwanda:

      • Submission of final Senior Secondary/National Exam Certificate or Notarized statement of results.
      • Submission of additional proof of English proficiency
  • You can submit the needed documents through the Admissions portal
  • You can make your tuition payment - please read carefully and understand the conditions of your offer beforehand.
  • If you have applied for financial aid, your application will be reviewed and decision will be updated
  • The conditions of your admissions offer are required to be completed before matriculation

Preliminary Offer (PO)

A Preliminary Offer does not constitute an official acceptance and instead indicates that you are yet to meet important requirements to be fully considered for admission at ALU. Below is the condition of your preliminary offer and next steps:

  • Condition of your preliminary offer: As an international or Rwandan student who has not written an exam administered by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) you are required to apply for an Advanced Level Equivalence certificate offered by NESA to attend our ALU Rwanda campus.

  • What are my next steps?

    • Start your application for the Equivalence certificate online on the official government website. We recommend you start your equivalence application as soon as possible. Please refer to our Equivalence Application Brochure or Step by Step Equivalence Application Guide for more information on how to apply for an equivalence certificate.
    • Submit an Equivalence certificate on their Admissions Portal in order to clear your Preliminary Offer and receive an offer of (conditional/or unconditional) admission to ALU.
    • Upon submission of your equivalence certificate, the ALU Admissions team will review your application again and make a final decision on your application. You can expect feedback within one to two weeks after submitting and you will be eligible to enrol into the first available intake after meeting the requirements.
  • Please note:
    • Applicants will not receive their financial aid decision until they complete their  PO requirement of submitting an equivalence certificate.
    • PO Applicants will have access to view their Admissions portal. However, they will not be able to complete any of the requirements until they submit their Equivalence certificate.
      • This also means that international applicants cannot submit documents to start an application for a student permit until they have submitted their equivalence certificate and received a (un)conditional admission offer.
  •

Waitlisted

Applicants that show potential but fall just below the threshold to be extended an offer at the time of their application decision may be offered a spot on our Waitlist. Waitlisted candidates will typically be considered along with applicants from subsequent application rounds. Hence, Waitlisted applicants may be offered a final decision at any point during the application cycle.

Rejected

Rejected applicants do not qualify for admission to ALU and may not reapply for the same intake.
