What is an Affidavit?

Modified on Wed, 4 Dec at 12:27 PM

An affidavit is a written statement made under oath, where the person signing it (called the affiant) swears that the information in the document is true to the best of their knowledge.

It is typically used as evidence in legal proceedings or official processes. Since it is sworn under oath, providing false information in an affidavit can lead to legal penalties, including perjury charges.

Copies of your affidavit need to be notarized. Learn more about notarization.
