Notarization for ALU Applications

• What does notarization mean? 

To notarize a document means to obtain a legal confirmation that the presented copy of the original document is valid. 

• Why it is necessary: This ensures that submitted documents are recognized as true and accurate representations of the original documents by immigration authorities and other official users.

• Documents that require notarization: Academic documents; certificates and transcripts need to be notarized and the applicant will be conditionally admitted till the notarized documents are submitted. Translated documents and any others which have been specified as requiring a notary.

• Who can notarize and where to notarize your documents?

Any certified notary from your country is eligible to notarize your documents for education purposes. Please reach out to your Ministry of Education, the Rwandan Embassy, or the Notary Board in your country for reference of where you can find the notary in your country.

• I only have my online results, or a result slip because my diploma is not yet out. What should I do?

Please print your online results or make a copy of your result slip, have this document notarized, and submit it on the academic results page of your ALU Admissions Portal.

• I am required to submit notarized documents as part of my equivalence application. What documents do I need to notarize?

You need to notarize all equivalence application documents (applicable to your country of study) except your passport/identity document. The National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) of Rwanda or the African Leadership University (ALU) do not require your original documents; thus, the need to have notarized copies of your originals.
